What the IMDB says about the plot:

A photographer for a men's magazine is disturbed by a recurring dream he has that he is killing his models by various gruesome means...

Plot:

Cops are on a stakeout watching Charlie, a cop dressed in drag. However, he gets killed while the backup aren't paying attention.

Sgt. Hunter or Diry Harry never had to put up with this kind of thing...
The police captain chews out the cops that didn't catch Charlie's killer.

Elsewhere in the city, Adrian Wilde, photographer is having strange dreams similar to the murders that have been plaguing LA.

Blatant newspaper article to increase circulation...
Later, at a photo shoot, Adrian tries to drown the model and awakens from that nightmare.

The cops are still trying to find the murderer and are called to a case involving a drownend model.

Adrian and his brother, BJ, keep arguing before hanging out at a night club. BJ has been awfully depressed since his wife left him after the car accident which disabled him.

Adrian sees his shrink after his next nightmare. Afterwards, Adrian drops a trash bag with a rattlesnake over the next model's head.

Smile for the birdy...
He starts talking to himself and stabs himself and awakens from that nightmare... The next session has Adrian talking about the dreams and his mother...

Adrian and his new girlfriend, Mindy, are doing the early 1980s California couple montage at a beach set to the soft jazz beat...

The brothers and their dates go to a club. Later, an ex-girlfriend pays a visist to Adrian, he stabs her and awakens from the nightmare. The shrink tells them about the dead models, etc... Elsewhere, the cops find the latest victim. They question BJ about Adrian and search and find photos of the murders in Adrian's possession.

BJ calls the cops about his brother.

Adrian and Mindy are arquing about families, etc.... Mindy heads out for a walk on the beach. She notices she's being followed and then stabbed.

BJ reveals to Adrain that the police think the photographing brother is the murderer and been planning of framing Adrian. BJ had some loose grips on reality because of mommy-issues. BJ killed the victims and admits to stabbing Mindy. All the victims were based on Adrian's nightmares and planted the pics in Adrian's dark lab.

Adrian tries to talk BJ into getting help when the wounded Mindy stabs BJ before he could stab Adrian as the police arrive...

What I say:

This is the one of the first 1980s thriller outside the realm of B-movie martial arts, sci-fi/horror movies...This isn't even the 1980s cop movie before the action of the Lethal Weapon type. For those who are wanting a 1980s cop movie, you better be ready for the disappointment. The psychic-link to a killer movie, the cops only pop up every 10, 15 minutes for a scene.

The movie keeps changing whether the most of it is psychic, nightmarish, thriller, etc...It keeps changing so many times I'm not sure what it means. When the psychic link is inside a nightmare that's being told to multiple characters, you can't keep up with what's being intended. Think more people would notice the similarities between the victims. At least a couple of murdered models would be considered as similar...

2 1/2 NINJAS

Quotable Dialogue

"Blame the accident..."
"If I were married, I'd look happy."
"Hey, Alec, can I have my alimony check?"
"I gotta get Bambi's car back."

Morals of the Story

Stunt cars don't need doors to be welded shut.
Trash bag advertisements need centerfold models.
Snakes in trash bags and putting them on human heads are a bad combinations.
It is easy to trade a Porsche to a Rolls-Royce.
